The terrific debut full-length from yet another promising, up and coming underground act: Gorgosaur, from Sweden. Formed back in 2013 in Malmö with the aim of creating total death, this duo comprised of Martin Schönherr (drums and vocals) and Åsa Hagström (guitar, bass and vocals) put out a demo titled "Gashes and Demise" last year, and it took us less than ten minutes (the total running time of the 3-song demo) to thoroughly feast on the loathsome, blood-soaked and purulent Death Metal with a penchant for assorted tempos and the genuine stench of the late 80´s / early 90´s that these deathsters have on offer. There is no denying these guys pay homage to the very pioneers of the ancient Swedish way (namely Nihilist, Carnage and Grave), but one can also find traces of the gory filth of Autopsy, Carcass, Deranged, Necrony and Cadaver in their music. All in all, Gorgosaur channel a sound that´s devoid of cheesy melodies or just anything that might interrupt their seething, rollicking momentum. "Lurking Among Corpses" is not for the faint of heart, but for the underground mongers whose passion for old school Death Metal performed with venomous intensity surpasses everything else. Recorded and mixed by Tomas Skogsberg at the legendary Sunlight Studio (Stockholm, Sweden). Mastered by Ted Tringo at The Ancient Way Mastering (U.S.A.). Deliciously old-fashioned, morbid artwork by Mark Riddick. |
